The Stars Come Out November 13, 2016

The Austin Symphonic Band's opening concert featured Stephen Williamson, who attended Reagan High School and studied with Austin clarinetist and ASB member Nancy North. He is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the Juilliard School, and studied at the Hochschule der Knste in Berlin. He has been the principal clarinetist of both the New York Philharmonic (2013-14) and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (2003-11). He is currently the principal clarinetist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Riccardo Muti.

Mr. Williamson performed the Concertino in E-Flat Major, Op. 26, for Clarinet with wind band accompaniment by Carl Maria von Weber. The band also performed works by Aaron Copland, Franz von Supp, Julius Fuk, and local composer Ryan George. Richard Floyd conducted.
